The Christian Community

- Movement for Religious Renewal -

(Viroqua, Wisconsin congregation)

The Christian Community is unique in being founded not only on the seven (renewed) sacraments - the Act of Consecration of Man (our communion service), Baptism (received by children), Confirmation, Sacramental Consultation (confession), Marriage, Consecration of Priests, and Last Anointing - but also on complete freedom of religious belief. The full equality of men and women (including in the priesthood) is also foundational to the Christian Community.

We are in the interesting situation here in Viroqua of undertaking to form a congregation of the Christian Community, a community centered upon the sacraments, without a resident priest to celebrate the sacraments! We receive priest visits from our "mother" congregation in Chicago twice a year. All of our activities - services, study groups and conversations, festivals celebrations - are "lay" activities.

This Spring we are very happy that Rev. Richard Dancey, priest of the Christian Community in Chicago, is returning to us for a weekend of talks, a workshop and services. He will also be available for private consultations. See here for details:
